EXCHANGING EXPERIENCES ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND CIVIC

INTEGRATION IN SERBIA 25 June 2008

The one-day conference “Exchanging Experiences on Socio-Economic and Civic Integration in Serbia” that will be held at the Sava center in Belgrade on 25 June 2008.

The main objective of the Conference is to stimulate a DIALOGUE with municipalities, non governmental organizations and other institutional bodies that have been working with UN-HABITAT, and other relevant stakeholders through sharing of experiences and lessons learnt from the implementation of pilot initiatives to improve social, economic and civic integration in local communities, and safer urban environments.

The specific objectives of the Conference are two fold: one, to facilitate the exchange of experiences that should provide more favorable institutional environment for socio-economic integration, identifying good practices, models and approaches; and two, simultaneously, to exchange experiences on undertaken processes for improving local urban safety, fostering networking at different institutional levels, and within the European context. The experiences presented, the highlights of the workshop sessions, and their conclusions will be systematically captured in the proceedings of the conference and will be widely available for public dissemination.

The conference combines key note presentations with plenary discussions and highly interactive group deliberations. Main themes for the two parallel workshop sessions are: 1. Socio-economic integration of vulnerable groups into local communities, and 2. Exchanging experiences on urban safety - together for a safer city.
